Altherma 3 GEO is an indoor R32 heat pump for a ground loop or water loop. It is not an air-source Altherma outdoor unit. Daikin’s current UK page focuses on collective heating, where individual apartment units connect to a shared loop supplied by ground, water, waste heat or another central source.

Four current UK code forms

The current code schedule combines two capacity classes with two functions. EGSAH06UD9W and EGSAH10UD9W are heating-only 6 and 10 kW classes. EGSAX06UD9W and EGSAX10UD9W add cooling.

The UK suffix identifies a three-phase unit with a 9 kW integrated backup heater. The package also contains a 180 litre domestic-hot-water cylinder. Those electrical and storage elements are part of the indoor appliance, while the source loop, pumps and shared energy source belong to the wider system design.

Source-side design is separate

A common water loop may receive heat from boreholes, thermal piles, open water, a central air-source or ground-source plant, district energy or recovered heat. The source temperature, flow rate, water quality and pumping energy affect the complete system and cannot be inferred from the apartment heat-pump capacity alone.

The H or X function also needs to match the building emitters and controls. A cooling-capable unit does not establish that the shared loop, pipework and apartment emitters are designed for cooling.

Certification and warranty

All four exact EGSAH and EGSAX UK codes were current in the MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) Product Directory on 23 July 2026. The register classified them as ground or water source heat pumps.

Daikin’s live residential page stated a two-year standard warranty at the review date. Its public five- and seven-year extension wording is specifically framed around air-to-water heat pumps, so it should not be applied to a GEO scheme without the issued contract or registration record.
