Heat-pump or fixed-AC brand

Grant

Grant is the UK arm of an Irish family-founded heating manufacturer, supplying oil-fired boilers, air source heat pumps, hybrids, cylinders and related products. Its heat-pump line is the Aerona air-to-water range, now in its fifth generation as the R290 Aerona 290.

Grant supplies heating products for the UK market. Its range includes oil-fired condensing boilers, air source heat pumps, hybrid heating equipment, hot-water cylinders, underfloor heating, aluminium radiators and solar thermal. Grant Engineering (UK) Limited is the UK company within an Irish family-founded manufacturing group whose history begins in 1978.

UK market and positioning

Grant UK was established in 1996 and 2026 marks its thirtieth year in the market. Grant Engineering (UK) Limited (company number 03196757) is an active private limited company registered at Frankland Road, Blagrove, Swindon.

Grant’s UK operations cover product specification, installer training, system design and after-sales support. Guarantee terms depend on the product and installation route. Aerona 290 has a one-year manufacturer guarantee, extendable to two years through registration and servicing, plus a conditional seven-year route through an eligible G1 installer. The paperwork supplied for an individual installation controls the applicable term.

Product range

The heat-pump line has two families on Grant’s UK site. The Aerona 290 is a single-phase, air-to-water range using R290 refrigerant. Its five UK models are named 4, 6.5, 9, 12 and 15.5 kW, each with a separate current MCS Product Directory record. The Aerona³ is an earlier R32 range with 6, 10, 13 and 17 kW models. Its UK MCS records also remain current at the review date.

Beyond heat pumps, the Vortex family covers oil-fired condensing boilers and the VortexAir hybrid combines an oil boiler with a heat pump. Other ranges include Quick Recovery hot-water cylinders, Uflex and Uflex MINI underfloor heating, Afinia aluminium radiators and solar thermal equipment. The Aerona Smart controller and related controls are used with the current heat-pump systems.

Ownership

Grant traces its history to 1978, when founder Stephen Grant designed the company’s first products. Its manufacturing and research base is at Crinkle, Birr, in County Offaly, Ireland. The UK business was incorporated in 1996 as a separate legal company within the group.

Companies House records Birr Grantfay Holdings Limited, an Irish company, as the person with significant control over Grant Engineering (UK) Limited through ownership of 75% or more of its shares.

Certification and recognition

All five Aerona 290 models have current MCS Product Directory records under certificates MCS HP0265/01 to HP0265/05. Aerona³ R32 records cover HPID6 under BBA 0009/15 and 0185/05, HPID10 under BBA 0009/16 and 0185/06, HPID13 under BBA 0009/18 and HPID17 under BBA 0009/17 and 0185/07. Generic family records BBA 0009/14 and 0185/04 also remain current. These are product records. Eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme also depends on the installer, installation and scheme requirements, so an MCS-listed product does not make an installation eligible by itself.

Grant reports that the Aerona 290 received the Heat Pump of the Year title at the 2025 Ireland’s Plumbing and Heating Awards. Its heritage page records an earlier Heat Pump of the Year title for the Aerona³ R32 at the 2022 National ACR and Heat Pump Awards.
