Sharp
Sharp supplied PV modules in Europe for three decades, but closed its European solar division on 31 March 2025. Sharp Electronics GmbH continues support for existing modules and says their guarantees remain valid.
Sharp is a Japanese electronics group that also manufactured solar cells and PV modules. Its panels were sold in the UK and elsewhere in Europe under model codes beginning with NU. Those products remain on roofs and may still appear in system records, although Sharp is no longer supplying new solar panels in Europe.
Withdrawal from the European market
Sharp announced in February 2025 that it would close Sharp Energy Solutions Europe after 30 years of operation. The division’s final operating day was 31 March 2025. The announcement was specifically about Sharp’s European solar business, not the rest of Sharp’s European operations or its solar activity elsewhere in the world.
Sharp Electronics GmbH took responsibility for customer service from 1 April 2025. Sharp also stated that existing product and power-output guarantees would remain valid for their stated periods and would be managed and supported by Sharp Electronics GmbH. The company still publishes a solar-panel after-sales route and keeps product documents online.
This distinction matters for an existing installation. The original panel is discontinued, but the manufacturer has not said that valid guarantees were cancelled. Whether a particular claim is covered still depends on the exact model, installation date, country and guarantee terms supplied with the system.
Archived module range
NU model codes cover products from different periods and for different settings. The compact NU-AK300 and NU-AK310 were 60-cell monocrystalline PERC modules rated at 300 W and 310 W. Later NU-JC products included residential and commercial rooftop modules. The final European NU-JC430B, NU-JC435 and NU-JC440 versions used N-type TOPCon half-cells in a 1722 by 1134 mm frame.
NU-JD545 and NU-JD550 were much larger modules intended for commercial roofs and ground-mounted projects. Their 2278 by 1134 mm frame and 27.5 kg published weight make them a separate format, not a higher-powered substitute that can be exchanged directly for an NU-AK or NU-JC panel.
Sharp’s archived product pages are useful because they preserve datasheets, installation manuals and guarantee documents. A family name alone is not enough to identify the relevant specification. Suffixes can denote a different frame or backsheet and older NU-JC products use different cell technology from the last N-type series.
MCS records
The exact Sharp modules described here had no current MCS Product Directory record at 22 July 2026. Historical records exist. The latest NU-JC and NU-JD entries ended on 22 May 2026, while the NU-AK300 records ended considerably earlier.
That register position does not stop an installed panel from operating or erase its product history. It does mean that an expired listing should not be presented as current MCS certification for a new installation.
