Victron Energy is a Dutch power-electronics manufacturer whose modular range covers inverter/chargers, solar charge controllers, batteries and energy-system monitoring.
Victron Energy is a Dutch power-electronics manufacturer founded in 1975. Its current range covers equipment for stationary energy storage, backup and off-grid installations as well as marine and vehicle systems. The company lists a United Kingdom and Ireland sales contact, while technical support, warranty claims and repairs normally start with the dealer that supplied the product.
A modular system
The Victron name can appear on several parts of one installation, but those parts do different jobs. A MultiPlus-II or Quattro-II converts power between a battery and an AC system and can charge the battery from an AC source. A SmartSolar MPPT controller charges a battery from solar panels on the DC side. A Cerbo GX connects supported equipment for monitoring and control. The battery, protective devices, metering and changeover arrangement are separate design choices.
A Cerbo GX is not an inverter and does not add power or storage capacity. A SmartSolar controller is not a grid-tied solar inverter. A MultiPlus-II can form part of a solar installation without containing a solar MPPT, because the panels can connect through separate charge controllers or through an AC-coupled PV inverter.
MultiPlus-II and Quattro-II
Both families combine a battery inverter, AC charger and transfer function. MultiPlus-II has one AC input. Quattro-II has two, allowing it to connect to sources such as the public supply and a generator and select the active source. Each family contains versions with different battery voltages, apparent-power ratings, charger currents and transfer limits.
The product name is therefore only the first part of identification. A code such as 48/5000/70-50 records characteristics that cannot be inferred from the family name alone. The manufacturer also offers GX versions of some inverter/chargers with communication hardware built in. A base model needs a separate GX device where those monitoring and remote-control functions are required.
UK grid connection
Victron publishes G98 and G99 documents on the MultiPlus-II and Quattro-II product pages. Each document names particular models, settings or configurations. Their presence is not a family-wide approval and does not decide the connection route for a complete property.
For a UK grid-connected design, the exact product code and system arrangement must match the applicable type-test evidence. Existing generation, aggregate registered capacity, phase arrangement and any export limitation remain part of the assessment. Equipment used only off-grid follows a different system boundary, but still needs appropriate electrical design and protection.
Monitoring and support
Victron’s GX devices run Venus OS. A connected system can expose supported information locally and through the Victron Remote Management portal. The available data and controls depend on the connected hardware, communication interfaces and system configuration. Internet access is required for remote portal use, so local operation and remote monitoring should be treated as separate capabilities.
At 23 July 2026, Victron states a five-year standard warranty for power products other than batteries, subject to its limited-warranty policy. A paid extension is available, while battery warranty periods differ. The original dealer is the primary route for support, repairs and warranty handling, making the supplying dealer and proof of purchase part of the handover record.
