Ohme

Ohme is an Irish-founded EV charging company established by David Watson in 2017. The company says its first charger prototype was completed in 2018 and the first production model followed in 2019. Its UK products combine the chargepoint, Ohme app and cloud service to control when a vehicle charges.

The software can schedule charging around a departure time, required charge and compatible electricity tariffs. This makes the online service and the link between the Ohme account and vehicle important parts of normal operation. A vehicle that does not provide state-of-charge data can still be scheduled, although the user may need to set the amount of charge required rather than relying on a live battery reading.

UK home-charger range

The current home range has two 7.4 kW single-phase models. Home Pro has a permanently attached Type 2 cable, an LCD screen and physical controls. The ePod uses a Type 2 socket, an LED status strip and three buttons, with a separate cable used between charger and vehicle.

Both models use an embedded multi-network mobile connection and the Ohme app. They support scheduled charging, a CT clamp for dynamic load balancing and solar charging where the required measurement and software setup are present. The charger can reduce its output when other electrical demand approaches the installation limit.

Ohme covers the embedded data-connection cost for the first three years under its published product terms. Owners comparing long-term connectivity should check the terms that apply after that period, as app and cloud functions depend on a working connection.

Shared and managed parking

Ohme also offers Park & Charge for shared residential and business parking. This service uses the ePod S, an untethered 7.4 kW charger intended for managed bays rather than the domestic ePod. Site users start and pay for charging through the service, while the site operator can manage access and energy use.

The similar names matter when identifying installed equipment. ePod, ePod S and Home Pro have different product records and should be checked against the label on the chargepoint rather than inferred from appearance or an app account.

Protection, installation and grants

Home Pro and ePod include residual-current monitoring and PEN-fault protection, but neither removes the need for a correctly designed final circuit, upstream overcurrent protection and commissioning by a competent installer. Solar and dynamic load control also depend on correct CT-clamp placement and configuration.

The GOV.UK eligible EV chargepoint list dated 15 June 2026 includes ePod and both Home Pro cable-length order codes for residential and commercial grants. A model’s presence on that list does not by itself make a household, business or installation eligible for funding.
