Kensa is a British ground source heat-pump manufacturer and networked-heat specialist founded in 1999. Its current UK product range covers domestic, shared-loop and commercial systems.
Kensa is a British ground source heat-pump manufacturer and networked-heating business founded in 1999. It designs and manufactures heat pumps in Cornwall and works across individual homes, housing developments, social housing and commercial buildings. The current website says Kensa is partly owned by Legal & General and Octopus Energy. Those investors announced a £70 million investment in 2023.
Current products
Kensa’s current product pages cover four heat-pump families. Shoebox NX is a compact 3 kW and 5 kW family for homes and flats. The original Shoebox remains available in 3 kW and 6 kW versions. Evo spans nominal 7, 9, 13, 15 and 17 kW models for medium and larger homes. Kensa Q is a three-phase commercial unit with an 83 kW nominal rating at B0/W35.
All are indoor ground source units. They need a ground or water-source circuit and a separate hot-water cylinder where domestic hot water is required. Kensa’s technical tables state that its heat pumps do not contain a built-in backup immersion heater.
Networked ground source systems
Kensa also develops networked ground source heat. In this arrangement, shared boreholes or other ground infrastructure circulate water at ambient temperature. Each property has its own heat pump, controls and electricity supply. This differs from a conventional high-temperature heat network because useful heat is produced inside each property rather than distributed as hot water from a central plant.
The ownership and charging arrangement for the shared ground infrastructure varies by project. It may be adopted by a utility or remain with a housing provider or site owner. That commercial arrangement is separate from ownership of the heat pump inside the property.
Product history
Earlier Kensa equipment includes Compact, Twin Compact and Shoebox Twin models. These remain in installed systems and in Kensa case studies, but they are not current product families. Kensa identifies Evo as the replacement context for at least the former 20 kW Twin Compact. Serial numbers and product-specific manuals are therefore important for existing equipment.
Warranty and support
Kensa introduced a new warranty structure for heat pumps sold after 1 February 2026. It describes a free one-year warranty starting at shipment, a free four-year standard warranty requiring registration within 30 days of commissioning and a paid eight-year extension bought at point of sale. Eligibility, installer status, registration and the full terms apply. Older heat pumps have different terms.
Kensa publishes installation manuals, technical information sheets, declarations and warranty documents in its technical-document library. These product-specific documents take priority over general website summaries.
