Solar inverter brand

SMA

SMA supplies UK residential, commercial and utility-scale solar inverters, battery inverters, home storage, energy management and EV charging equipment.

SMA Solar Technology AG is a German manufacturer of solar, battery and energy-management equipment. Its UK site remains active, provides local distributor and installer searches and links into the manufacturer’s current technical portfolio. Product availability still needs the exact designation because the global catalogue includes market-specific models and newly announced equipment.

Home solar and storage

Sunny Boy is SMA’s single-phase name. The current Sunny Boy 3.0 to 6.0 family is a PV-only string inverter. Sunny Boy Smart Energy combines PV and a high-voltage battery interface in 3.6 to 6.0 kW versions in the current general schedule. The 8.0 and 9.9 models shown on the global page are marked Italy-only.

Sunny Tripower is the three-phase branch. Sunny Tripower Smart Energy covers 5, 6, 8 and 10 kW hybrid inverters. The current PV-only range also includes domestic Sunny Tripower models and larger Sunny Tripower X equipment.

SMA Home Storage uses 3.28 kWh high-voltage modules. The current datasheet covers 3.28 to 16.4 kWh, while inverter compatibility, permitted module count and firmware depend on the connected Smart Energy model. A common brand and voltage class do not make an older Sunny Boy Storage or Sunny Island compatible with Home Storage.

Battery inverters and backup

Sunny Boy Storage is an AC-coupled, single-phase battery inverter with three high-voltage battery connections. It remains in the manufacturer’s battery-inverter catalogue and support system, but Home Storage documentation says that battery cannot be retrofitted to Sunny Boy Storage.

Sunny Island 6.0H and 8.0H cover on-grid backup and off-grid systems using compatible batteries. Sunny Island X is the newer 30 and 50 kW battery-inverter platform. These are system-forming products whose permitted batteries, cluster design, switching and earthing must be taken from the applicable planning documents.

Secure Power, backup and off-grid operation are different arrangements. A supported inverter function still needs the specified transfer equipment and electrical design before loads can operate during a grid outage.

Commercial and energy management range

Sunny Tripower X spans 12 to 25 kW and the newer X 60 covers 50 and 60 kW. Sunny Tripower CORE1 is a 50 kW, six-MPPT commercial inverter. SMA’s 2026 portfolio also introduces Sunny Tripower Hybrid X and SMA Storage M; UK new-supply detail should be confirmed while those newer ranges enter regional catalogues.

Sunny Home Manager 2.0 measures power at the grid connection point and coordinates supported batteries, EV chargers, heat pumps and flexible loads. It is an energy manager, not an inverter or billing meter.

SMA states that the older SMA EV Charger 7.4/22 is no longer sold and names eCharger as its successor. Installed EV Chargers remain documented.

Warranty and records

Warranty varies by product and registration. SMA’s general home warranty page describes a five-year factory warranty, while individual products may offer a free extension after registration or different terms. The serial number, commissioning date, country terms and Online Service Center record determine the applicable cover.
