Zaptec
Zaptec is a Norwegian EV-chargepoint manufacturer with UK home chargers and a scalable managed-site platform.
Zaptec is a Norwegian EV chargepoint manufacturer established in 2012. It began with compact power-electronics development, moved into EV charging in 2014 and launched the first Zaptec Pro in 2017. Zaptec Go followed in 2021, with Go 2 unveiled in 2024 and launched in the UK in September 2025.
The products are designed and manufactured in Norway. Zaptec combines its chargers with an app, the Zaptec Portal cloud platform and optional energy-measurement hardware.
Home and smaller installations
Zaptec Go is the company’s established home charger. The UK version is a 7.4 kW single-phase unit with a Type 2 socket and built-in open-PEN protection. It has Wi-Fi and mobile connectivity, app scheduling, RFID (radio-frequency identification) and an electronic cable lock.
Go 2 adds three-phase charging at up to 22 kW where the supply and vehicle support it. It also has a display, MID-certified meter and hardware intended to support ISO 15118 communication and future bidirectional services. On a single-phase supply its maximum remains 7.4 kW.
Up to three Go-family chargers can share one Home installation, and Go and Go 2 can be mixed. Each charger still requires its own circuit protection. Zaptec Sense measures the building supply for dynamic power control and can support solar charging. It is separate hardware rather than a function supplied by the charger alone.
Apartments, workplaces and commercial sites
Zaptec Pro uses a different architecture for apartment blocks, workplaces, fleets and managed parking. Chargers share an installation circuit and distribute available current between connected vehicles. Dynamic phase balancing can move compatible single-phase loads between phases or select one-phase and three-phase operation according to capacity.
Site owners and operators use Zaptec Portal for configuration, access, status and charging reports. The current Pro MID version has an integrated MID Class B meter and a display for cumulative energy readings. Earlier non-MID-labelled Pro units remain installed and supported, so equipment identification matters where readings are used for reimbursement or billing.
Connected functions and product boundaries
Zaptec’s cloud platform enables monitoring, software updates and integrations. Go 2 and Pro support OCPP 1.6J, while the exact connection route can be native or cloud-to-cloud depending on the product. Loss of the online service can therefore affect management and load-control functions even where basic local charging remains possible.
Go 2 is marketed as V2G-ready. That describes hardware and communications intended for bidirectional use. Actual export depends on the vehicle, standards, charger software, electrical installation and an available service, so it should not be treated as an active feature in every installation.
Zaptec states a five-year guarantee for its current UK chargers, subject to its terms. The GOV.UK eligible chargepoint list dated 15 June 2026 includes Zaptec Go, Go 2, Pro and Pro MID for residential and commercial grants. The spreadsheet’s power value for Go does not match the current 7.4 kW UK model, so the manufacturer’s UK specification should be used when designing an installation.
