Rolec

Rolec Services designs and manufactures EV-charging equipment in Boston, Lincolnshire. Its current UK range covers domestic wall units, commercial wall units, multi-outlet AC pedestals and UltraCharge DC stations. The model family matters because Rolec uses different enclosures, outlet counts, access methods and warranty periods across the range.

Home and wall-mounted ranges

EVO is the compact current home and light-commercial charger. It uses a universal Type 2 socket and comes in 7.4 kW single-phase and 22 kW three-phase forms. WallPod is an established 7.4 kW single-phase family with socketed and tethered configurations. Zura expands the wall-mounted format to one or two outlets and 7.4 or 22 kW schedules.

SecuriCharge is a steel wall unit for exposed commercial locations. It can have one or two Type 2 sockets or, on request, one or two tethered leads, with model-dependent contactless payment and display options. QUBEV Smart remains in Rolec’s download archive and is still sold by the retail partner linked from Rolec’s launch page, although it is absent from the manufacturer’s main product-range page.

Pedestal ranges

BasicCharge is a steel pedestal with one or two sockets and an illuminated head. Quantum uses a taller aluminium body, with a core one and two-outlet range plus a separate four-socket model. HEX is a heavy-duty steel pedestal with two or four outlets. BasicCharge, the core Quantum range and HEX have model-specific 7.4 kW single-phase or 22 kW three-phase schedules per outlet. Rolec’s four-way Quantum announcement instead specifies four 7.2 kW sockets.

That per-outlet rating is not the same as the site’s simultaneous supply requirement. The available power can be constrained by the incoming supply, circuit design, static or dynamic load management and the configured chargepoint-management system.

Controls, communications and protection

Rolec’s current pages list OCPP 1.6 for the connected AC ranges. Depending on model, drivers can use plug-and-go, RFID, a mobile application or contactless payment. Commercial operation may depend on a separate chargepoint-management service and its ongoing account, connectivity and payment terms.

PME fault detection, 6 mA DC leakage detection and load-management support appear across the current range, but the exact protective arrangement differs. These features do not replace the installer’s assessment of supply capacity, earthing, upstream protection, cable route and the current wiring and smart-chargepoint rules.

Warranty and model codes

EVO has a five-year warranty. BasicCharge and the other current AC ranges have three-year terms. The supplied warranty terms and exact model code remain the controlling evidence. This matters particularly for older Rolec units because the catalogue contains many SKU suffixes for phase, outlet count, access hardware and enclosure finish.
