Heat-pump or fixed-AC brand

Mitsubishi Electric

Mitsubishi Electric supplies Ecodan air-to-water heat pumps and M Series fixed air-conditioning systems for UK homes.

Mitsubishi Electric’s UK domestic range includes Ecodan wet heating systems and M Series fixed air conditioning. Ecodan outdoor units use PUZ codes, while the current wall-mounted M Series indoor units use MSZ codes.

Current range and R32 transition

Ecodan R290 is the current five-size range, with 5, 6, 8.5, 10 and 12 kW capacity classes under PUZ-WZ outdoor codes. Single-phase and three-phase forms are available across part of the range, while a -BS suffix identifies the coastal-protection version.

PUZ-WZ80 had current MCS Product Directory records on 23 July 2026 but was absent from Mitsubishi Electric’s current five-size range page. The directory record does not add an advertised 8 kW size to the five-size manufacturer range.

R32 equipment remains on the live UK catalogue, including the standard 6, 8.5 and 11.2 kW family, the compact 5 kW model and the 14 kW Zubadan family. Mitsubishi Electric began phasing out these models in favour of the extended R290 range in June 2025. Its January 2026 transition update placed the planned withdrawal one year away. Current supply still depends on the exact model and date.

Product codes identify the equipment

Current R290 outdoor units use codes beginning PUZ-WZ. R32 outdoor-unit families use PUZ-WM and PUZ-HWM codes. The letters and suffixes distinguish refrigerant family, capacity, electrical supply and the coastal-protection option. V identifies single-phase forms, Y identifies three-phase forms and -BS identifies coastal protection in the current schedules.

Indoor equipment has separate EHPT codes. The current FTC7 catalogue includes packaged and pre-plumbed cylinders, with slimline 150 and 170 litre models and standard forms from 150 to 300 litres. FTC is also used for the controller generation. It should not be treated as an outdoor-unit model number.

M Series fixed air conditioning

M Series is the fixed AC range. The wall-mounted families all provide room heating and cooling, but they do not form a set of interchangeable capacity variants. Refrigerant, finishes, integrated sensors, filtration and Wi-Fi provision differ by family.

Family Range position and capacities Refrigerant Controls, sensing and finishes
MSZ-RZ Premium Plus; 2.5, 3.5 and 5.0 kW nominal cooling classes R290 Built-in MELCloud Home, integrated refrigerant sensor, 3D i-see sensor and Plasma Quad; optional black finish
MSZ-LN Premium; 1.8, 2.5, 3.5, 5.0 and 6.1 kW R32 Built-in MELCloud Home, 3D i-see sensor, integrated Plasma Quad and four finishes
MSZ-AY / MSZ-AP Elegance; AY covers 1.5 to 5.0 kW, AP covers 6.1 and 7.1 kW R32 Built-in MELCloud Home on current VGK2 units; self-cleaning mode and Dual-Barrier coating are AY-only
MSZ-EF Zen; 1.8, 2.2, 2.5, 3.5 and 5.0 kW R32 Built-in MELCloud Home, V-Blocking filter, optional Plasma Quad Connect and black, silver or white finish
MSZ-HR Classic; 2.5, 3.4, 5.0, 6.1 and 7.1 kW R32 Optional MELCloud Home interface and optional Plasma Quad Connect; white finish

The 1.8 kW LN indoor unit, 1.5 kW AY indoor unit and 1.8 and 2.2 kW EF indoor units have no MUZ pair outdoor unit in their current schedules. They connect to compatible MXZ multi-split equipment. The remaining listed sizes have named MUZ pair outdoor units.

M Series model codes

MSZ identifies a wall-mounted indoor unit in these families. MUZ identifies a matched single-split outdoor unit and MXZ a multi-split outdoor unit. The family letters and two-digit capacity class follow the prefix.

MSZ-LN35VG3B, for example, breaks down as:

  • MSZ: indoor wall unit
  • LN: product family
  • 35: 3.5 kW nominal cooling class
  • VG3: current scheduled revision
  • B: Onyx Black finish

The revision segment is retained as a complete code. Finish letters differ by family: LN uses R, B, V and W; EF uses B, S and W; RZ uses an optional B suffix for black. AY/AP and HR use white indoor units in their current schedules.

Certification and warranty records

The MCS Product Directory had current exact records for the principal PUZ-WZ, PUZ-WM and PUZ-HWM families on 23 July 2026. The records apply at model or defined-combination level, rather than to the Ecodan name as a whole.

Residential Ecodan warranty terms in force on the same date gave units below 20 kW a three-year term through a Standard Account Holder, five years through an Accredited Ecodan Installer or seven years through a Heating Business Solutions Partner. Ecodan cylinders and ancillaries had three years in each route. Homeowner registration is due within 30 days of commissioning, or occupation for a new build. Cover is limited to 12 months without completed registration.

The five-year and seven-year terms depend on the installer or business partner retaining the relevant status throughout the warranty period; loss of that status reverts cover to the Standard Account Holder warranty. The general conditions exclude failure caused by inadequate maintenance or no maintenance. Ecodan branded packaged cylinders have a separate annual-service condition, and maintenance records may be requested.
