AC

AC is electricity where the supply alternates between positive and negative voltage rather than flowing in one steady direction. In the UK, mains AC oscillates at 50 Hz. The UK mains supply is declared at 230 V between phase and neutral and 50 Hz at the supply terminals. In a home energy system, AC is the side used by normal household circuits, consumer units, grid connections and most plug-in appliances. Solar PV is generated as DC before an inverter converts it to AC, so PV and inverter specifications often separate DC-side panel capacity from AC-side output.
