AC controls indoor temperature and, depending on the system, can provide cooling, heating, dehumidification and air circulation.

AC is equipment used to control indoor air conditions. Fixed residential AC can use a reversible air-to-air heat pump with an outdoor unit and one or more indoor units connected by refrigerant pipework. Portable AC is a separate appliance category. An indoor fan does not provide outdoor air unless the specified system includes ventilation.
