Anti-islanding

Anti-islanding is the inverter or interface-protection function that stops grid-connected generation or storage from continuing to energise the network after the grid supply is lost.

Anti-islanding is the inverter or interface-protection function that detects loss of mains and disconnects a grid-connected generator, inverter or storage system from the distribution network when the grid supply is no longer present. In domestic solar PV and battery systems it is part of the G98 and G99 connection evidence around equipment that operates in parallel with the distribution network, and UK documents may call it loss-of-mains protection. It is a safety and grid-protection function for parallel grid connection, not a backup mode, EPS output, whole-home backup arrangement, DNO approval, commissioning proof or permission to run the home as an island during a power cut.
