Backup EPS output

A backup EPS output is the output connection on some battery or hybrid inverter systems that can supply a dedicated socket, selected backup circuits or maintained loads during a grid outage when the installation has been designed and commissioned for that use. In normal operation, some EPS terminals are fed by the grid; when the inverter detects a grid outage they can switch to battery power and, on supported hybrid inverters, available solar generation. The output is not a whole-home backup system, transfer switch, backup isolator, island-mode arrangement or uninterruptible power supply (UPS) by itself. Usable backup depends on the inverter output rating, battery state of charge, connected loads, protective devices, earthing, changeover or isolation arrangement and commissioning checks.
