Backup mode
Also known as Emergency power supply, EPS
Battery-storage operating mode for powering selected backed-up circuits during a grid supply failure, where the system has the required backup or EPS hardware.
Backup mode is a battery-storage operating mode in which a battery system supplies selected circuits when the grid supply fails, if the installation has the required backup or EPS hardware. It is different from ordinary self-consumption because the system must isolate the maintained circuits from the grid and run them within the inverter, battery, earthing and circuit limits. A product or app labelled backup-capable may still support only a dedicated backup circuit or limited loads rather than the whole property.
