Battery power rating

Battery power rating is the power limit a battery system or battery inverter is rated to charge or discharge at, usually expressed in kilowatts (kW). It describes how quickly stored energy can be moved into or out of the battery, not how much energy the battery stores in kilowatt hours (kWh). Manufacturer documents may separate continuous, maximum, peak, charge and discharge ratings, and the usable rate can also be limited by the inverter, BMS, temperature, state of charge, app settings, commissioning settings and backup or export limits. The rating should be read with the product datasheet and handover design; it is not proof that all household loads can run, that a battery will fill within a fixed time, that export is approved or that the installation is safely designed.
