Battery throughput

Battery throughput is the cumulative amount of energy that passes into or out of a battery storage system over time.

Battery throughput is the cumulative amount of energy that passes through a battery storage system over time, usually counted in kWh or MWh at a stated measurement point. It is different from usable capacity, which is how much stored energy the battery can make available at one time, and from charge or discharge power, which is the rate at that moment. Throughput appears in monitoring exports, service reports and warranty documents because repeated charging and discharging are one way manufacturers describe battery use. The figure only makes sense with its boundary: whether it is counting energy charged into the battery, energy discharged from the battery, AC output, DC battery energy or a warranty-specific allowance. It does not by itself show state of health, remaining lifespan, savings, backup runtime or warranty entitlement.
