Boundary distance

Boundary distance is the measured separation between a proposed part of an installation and a defined boundary, edge or neighbouring assessment point. In home energy work it can appear in planning checks for stand-alone solar equipment, air source heat pump siting, roof-mounted PV design and drawings that show equipment or cable routes in relation to neighbouring land, highways or roof edges. The required distance is not universal: the source document must say which boundary is being measured, which part of the installation is being measured and which rule or design check the distance is being used for.
