Cable route

A cable route is the planned path a cable takes between parts of a home energy installation, such as a solar array, inverter, battery, EV chargepoint, heat pump, meter position or consumer unit. The route affects cable length, visible containment, penetrations through walls, floors or roof spaces, protection from mechanical or thermal damage, support and weather resistance. It can also affect electrical design issues such as voltage drop and the practical location of equipment. The term should not be read as an installer instruction: final routes, cable sizes, protection, fire-stopping, sealing and certification depend on the property, the equipment manufacturer's instructions and the applicable electrical and building regulations.
