CCS rapid charging

CCS (Combined Charging System) rapid charging means charging an EV with DC through a CCS or Combo 2 connector, usually from a tethered public rapid or ultra-rapid chargepoint. In UK public-charging material, CCS is the common connector language for rapid DC charging, and UK public chargepoint regulations define a rapid public charge point as 50 kW or above. The term describes the connector and charging context, not a guarantee that a vehicle will accept the charger's rated power or hold that rate throughout the session. Actual charging can be limited by the vehicle's DC charging capability, battery state of charge, battery temperature, chargepoint output, site power, cable condition, payment or network availability and the vehicle's charging curve. CCS rapid charging is separate from Type 2 AC home charging, Type 2 cables, CHAdeMO, smart-tariff compatibility, home charger installation, DNO approval, payment access or proof that a particular public charger is working or available.
