Clearance

Clearance is the free space or distance left around equipment, an array, a boundary, a roof edge or another obstacle.

Clearance is the free space or distance left around equipment, an array, a boundary, a roof edge or another obstacle. In home energy work it can describe the space needed for airflow and maintenance around a battery, inverter, EV chargepoint or heat pump, the access gap around a solar array or a planning distance from a roof edge, boundary or highway. The required clearance is not one standard distance. It depends on manufacturer instructions, ventilation, maintenance access, fire and electrical safety, permitted development limits and the exact site.
