Conservation area

A conservation area is an area designated for special architectural or historic interest, where the character or appearance is considered desirable to preserve or enhance. In home energy work it can affect whether solar equipment, an EV charger, a heat pump, battery equipment or visible cable routes can rely on ordinary permitted development rules, especially where equipment faces or sits close to a highway. The label does not make home energy equipment automatically banned or automatically allowed. It means the property, equipment position, visibility, local planning authority rules, Article 4 directions and any other consents need to be checked before exterior work is treated as permitted.
