A CAD (consumer access device) is a smart-meter accessory or built-in function that can access smart-meter data for an authorised display, app or service.

CAD (consumer access device) means a smart-meter accessory or built-in function that connects to the smart metering home area network and accesses data from paired electricity or gas smart meters for an authorised display, app, cloud service or local integration. It may be standalone or built into an IHD (in-home display), and it is separate from the smart meter, supplier bill, export meter reading, SEG registration, export MPAN setup, DNO approval, MCS certification, API (application programming interface) access rights and permission to change commissioned equipment settings.
