A consumer unit is the domestic electrical board where the home's circuits are controlled, distributed and protected.

A consumer unit is the domestic electrical board, often still called a fuse box, where the electricity supply is controlled and distributed to individual circuits. It normally contains a main switch and protective devices such as circuit breakers, RCDs or RCBOs, although older units may use rewirable fuses. In home energy work, the consumer unit is where documents may show the circuit for a solar inverter, battery inverter, EV chargepoint, heat pump or other fixed equipment. The term identifies the board and enclosure, not the suitability of the circuits inside it.
