Consumption CT

A Consumption CT is a current-transformer sensor or clamp configured to measure electricity use on a household, site or selected circuit. In home energy systems, the reading may feed a solar monitoring portal, battery or inverter app, EV charger controller, heat pump monitor or wider energy-management system so the product can show demand, calculate self-consumption or decide how much surplus generation is available. It is separate from a Generation CT, which measures generation output, and from an export meter or settlement meter used for tariff records. The CT has to be fitted on the correct single conductor, assigned to the correct phase or input and facing the expected direction, because a reversed, disabled or misplaced consumption CT can show negative consumption, missing demand or misleading power flow.
