Current

Current is the flow of electric charge through a wire, cable, component or battery. It is measured in amperes, usually shortened to amps and written as A. In home energy documents, current appears beside figures such as maximum AC current, battery charge or discharge current, rated current per phase, CT clamp readings and circuit-protection limits. It is different from voltage, power and energy: voltage is the electrical potential difference, current is the flow, power depends on voltage and current at that moment and energy depends on how long the power is used. A current limit in amps should be read with the equipment voltage, phase arrangement, circuit protection and manufacturer conditions rather than treated as a fixed power output or battery capacity.
