DC-coupled battery architecture

DC-coupled battery architecture is a home-battery layout where solar PV generation and a compatible battery meet on the DC side of a hybrid inverter or similar power-conversion system.

A DC-coupled battery architecture connects a home battery on the DC side of an inverter, usually alongside solar PV input before electricity is converted to AC for the property. In many domestic systems this means a hybrid inverter or storage controller manages both the solar input and the battery, which can avoid an extra AC-to-DC conversion when solar generation charges the battery. The term describes system topology, not a guarantee of efficiency, retrofit suitability, backup circuits, export settings, DNO approval, MCS certification, warranty cover or compatibility with every solar array, inverter, battery, meter or tariff.
