DC leakage detection
DC leakage detection is an EV charger safety function that detects residual DC and triggers disconnection before it can impair upstream RCD protection.
DC leakage detection is the function in an EV chargepoint or associated protective device that monitors for residual DC and removes the supply, or initiates its removal, when the detected DC fault current reaches the device threshold. In Mode 3 EV charging this is often described as RDC-DD or 6 mA DC protection, because DC residual current can affect Type A and Type F RCDs. The label does not replace a correctly selected RCD or RCBO, the charger's instructions or electrical installation checks.
