DC

DC is electricity where current flows in one direction rather than alternating back and forth. In a home energy system, DC is the electrical side of solar panels, battery cells and an EV traction battery. It is different from the AC used by normal household circuits. Solar PV produces DC and an inverter converts it to AC for household circuits or grid export. A home battery also sits on a DC side of the system, so its inverter or hybrid inverter controls conversion between the battery and AC circuits. For EVs, a domestic AC charge point supplies AC to the vehicle and the on-board charger converts it to DC for the traction battery.
