Decibel A-weighting

Also known as dB(A)

Decibel A-weighting is the dB(A) sound-measurement notation used when a decibel figure has been adjusted with a frequency weighting that approximates the human ear's sensitivity.

Decibel A-weighting is a way of stating a sound level in decibels after applying A-weighting, a frequency weighting used for noise levels. In heat pump paperwork it appears as dB(A), including A-weighted sound power level figures on product labels and calculated sound pressure levels in MCS 020 assessments, such as the 37 dB(A) assessment-position limit used in current MCS heat pump noise guidance. The label says how the sound figure has been weighted. It does not by itself identify the measurement position, the measured quantity or whether a particular installation passes a planning or nuisance test.
