Default off-peak charging

Default off-peak charging is the pre-set charging timetable that covered private EV chargepoints in Great Britain may be supplied with under smart-chargepoint rules. The Smart Charge Points Regulations require a relevant charge point to incorporate pre-set default charging hours outside peak hours, unless a DSR (demand side response) agreement exception applies. At first use, the owner must be able to accept the default hours, remove them or set different default charging hours; later, the owner must be able to change, remove or set default charging hours. Default off-peak charging is a product default and schedule setting, not the electricity tariff itself, an off-peak rate, a vehicle timer, a supplier smart-charging service or a promise of cheaper charging. It does not prove vehicle compatibility, app connectivity, DNO approval or installation suitability.
