Demand response

Also known as DSR, Demand side response

Demand response is a deliberate change in electricity use at certain times, usually to reduce, shift or sometimes increase demand in response to prices, grid conditions or a flexibility service.

Demand response is a deliberate change in when or how much electricity is used, usually in response to a price signal, control instruction, incentive or electricity-system need. In UK energy material the same idea is often called DSR (demand side response), and it can include smart EV charging, battery charging or discharging, heat-pump scheduling, appliance timing or other flexible loads where the customer or service provider has agreed the arrangement. It is not the same as a fixed time-of-use tariff, randomised delay, dynamic load balancing, backup power, export metering, DNO approval or a guarantee that every connected device will respond automatically.
