Direct debit
A direct debit is an authorised payment from a bank or building society account, often used by energy suppliers to collect regular account payments.
A direct debit is an authorised payment that lets an organisation collect money from a bank or building society account. In energy supply, it usually means regular payments to the supplier, often set from estimated annual usage, meter readings, tariff rates and the account balance. The direct debit amount is a payment arrangement, not the same as the unit rate, standing charge, billing period, meter reading, account credit or debt, smart-meter data, SEG payment, export MPAN setup, DNO approval or a control setting for solar PV, battery storage, EV charging or heat pumps.
