DNO notification

Also known as DNO registration, connect-and-notify

A DNO notification is the notice or record sent to the DNO so it knows about a home energy device or connection at a specific property.

A DNO notification is the process or record of informing the DNO about a home energy device or connection, such as solar PV, battery storage, an EV chargepoint or a heat pump. In connect-and-notify cases described by GOV.UK and MCS, the installer can install the device first and submit the relevant form within 28 days, while apply-to-connect cases need DNO assessment before installation. The notification helps the network operator keep installation records and manage the local electricity network. It is not the same as a DNO approval letter, an MCS certificate, planning permission, building regulations certification, export-tariff registration or a guarantee that later equipment changes are covered.
