Double-pole isolation

Double-pole isolation means a linked isolating switch or device opens two conductors together, normally the line/live conductor and neutral conductor in a single-phase AC circuit. In home energy paperwork it may be written as DP (double-pole) isolator, 2-pole switch disconnector or main switch on consumer-unit schedules, electrical certificates, EV charger paperwork, inverter manuals, heat pump electrical schedules and product data. IET model BS 7671 forms record a main switch as an isolation device and include a field for its number of poles, while product data may label a switch disconnector as 2P. The term is narrower than isolator because it describes how many conductors the isolating device opens.
