EPS is the backup-output function on some battery inverter systems that can keep a dedicated socket or selected circuits powered during a grid outage.

EPS is the backup-output function on some battery and hybrid inverter systems that can supply a dedicated socket, selected circuits or a whole-property backup arrangement during a grid outage when the installation has been designed for that use. In normal operation the EPS terminals or backup circuit may be energised from the grid or inverter, while during a power cut the inverter switches to stored battery energy and, on supported hybrid systems, available solar generation. An EPS connection does not make a battery system a whole-property backup system by itself: the usable supply depends on inverter output, battery state of charge, connected loads, changeover arrangement, earthing, protection and commissioning checks.
