Estimate
An estimate is a provisional best guess of likely cost, work, output or energy use, rather than a fixed quote or guarantee.
An estimate is a provisional figure or calculation used before a price, scope or measured outcome is certain. In home energy paperwork it may describe likely installation cost, possible extra work, annual generation, self-consumption, running cost, energy use or timescales. Citizens Advice distinguishes an estimate from a quote: an estimate is a rough guess or the trader's best guess of cost, while a quote is a fixed price. More specific home energy terms, such as an MCS performance estimate for solar PV, depend on the method and assumptions stated in that document. An estimate is not the same as a fixed quote, contract, survey result, DNO approval, MCS certificate, warranty promise, SEG registration or proof that a system will deliver a particular saving or output.
