Export CT

An export CT is a current-transformer sensor or clamp used to measure power flow at or near the grid connection point, so an inverter, battery system or site controller can tell when electricity is being exported. It is usually part of monitoring, export limitation or load-control logic, not the settlement meter used for an export tariff. Product labels vary because many systems use one grid CT or meter to infer both import and export, rather than a separate export-only clamp. The CT has to be installed on the correct conductor, facing the correct direction, because reversed polarity or the wrong location can make import and export readings misleading.
