Export rate

An export rate is the price paid for each kilowatt hour of electricity a household exports to the grid under an export or SEG (Smart Export Guarantee) tariff.

Export rate is the unit price paid for exported electricity, usually shown in pence per kilowatt hour on a supplier export tariff, SEG page, export payment statement or supplier app. In the SEG, suppliers decide the rate, contract length and other terms, the rate must be above zero and payments are calculated using export meter readings. The label is separate from an import unit rate, standing charge, export MPAN setup, DNO approval, SEG eligibility, MCS certification, metering accuracy and whether export income will be higher than using or storing the electricity at home.
