Fixed tariff

A fixed tariff is an energy import tariff where the unit rate, and usually the standing charge, stay the same for a set contract period.

Fixed tariff is an energy import tariff where the agreed unit rate, and usually the standing charge, stay the same for a set contract period instead of moving with market prices during that period. It can give a household known tariff rates for imported gas or electricity, but it does not make the total bill fixed because the amount paid still depends on energy use and the contract terms. In solar, battery, EV charging and heat-pump contexts, the label should be kept separate from smart time-of-use tariffs, SEG export tariffs, export meter readings, DNO approval, meter registration and device-control settings.
