Flexible load
Also known as flexible demand, controllable load
A flexible load is an electrical demand that can be shifted, delayed, reduced or controlled within limits instead of always using power immediately.
A flexible load is an electrical demand that can change when it uses power or how much power it takes within agreed limits. In a home energy system this may include an EV charging session, a battery charging window, a hot-water load or some heat-pump operation where the equipment, controls and household comfort allow it. The word flexible describes the load's ability to respond to a schedule, tariff period, control signal, grid constraint or available solar generation. It does not mean the load can always be moved without consequence, that it automatically earns a flexibility payment or that it overrides safety, comfort, product or network limits.
