Flow rate

Flow rate is the amount of water or heat-transfer fluid moving through a heating circuit in a given time. In a heat pump system it is read alongside flow temperature, return temperature and heat output because the same heat output needs enough moving water for the chosen temperature drop. Too little flow can cause heat pump alarms or stop operation; excessive flow can create noise, circulation-pump energy use and operating issues. The term is not a pump-speed setting, pipe size, pressure reading or proof that the heating system has been designed correctly.
