Fuse

A fuse is a protective device with a fuse wire or element that melts when fault or overload current flows, breaking the circuit and disconnecting the faulty circuit. In home energy documents it may appear as a fuse in an older consumer unit, a switch-fuse, a supply protective device or a circuit overcurrent protective device recorded on electrical certificates. The term identifies the protective device, not whether the fuse rating, breaking capacity, cable size, earthing arrangement or equipment circuit is suitable for a solar inverter, battery inverter, EV chargepoint or heat-pump supply.
