G83 and G59 legacy connection routes

Also known as G83 and G59 legacy routes

Legacy GB distribution-network connection standards that preceded G98 and G99 for generation such as solar PV, batteries and inverters.

G83 and G59 were the older Engineering Recommendation names used for connecting generation to electricity distribution networks in Great Britain before G98 and G99 came into effect on 27 April 2019. G83 covered smaller generation up to and including 16 A per phase, while G59 covered larger generation. If they appear in old solar PV, battery storage, inverter or DNO paperwork, they usually describe the historic connection route or compliance standard for an existing installation. They are not the application names to use for a new connection today. Current work normally points to G98 for fully type-tested microgeneration up to 16 A per phase and G99 for other generation, with the DNO or installer checking whether a change to an older system counts as a new or significant modification.
