GDPR and energy data

GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and energy data is shorthand for the data-protection boundary around personal energy information, such as account identifiers, smart-meter readings, consumption data, tariff records and app or portal data. It matters when suppliers, authorised industry users, installers, aggregators or third-party services collect, use, retain or share energy data. It is separate from smart-meter functionality, half-hourly settlement, billing accuracy, export tariff acceptance, DNO approval, MCS certification or proof that a solar, battery, EV charging or heat-pump setup is suitable.
