Generation CT

Current-transformer sensor configured to measure output from a solar PV, wind or other generation circuit for monitoring or control.

A Generation CT is a current-transformer sensor or clamp configured to measure the AC output from a solar PV inverter, wind generator or other generation circuit. In home energy systems, it is usually used by an EV charger, immersion diverter, energy monitor or controller to show generated power, calculate household consumption or decide how much surplus electricity is available. It is separate from a grid CT, which watches import and export at the grid connection point, although both readings may be used together by the same app or controller. The CT has to be on the correct single conductor, assigned to the correct input and facing the correct direction, because a missing, disabled or reversed generation CT can show no generation or misleading power flow.
