Generation meter

A generation meter records the electricity generated by a solar PV installation or another small-scale renewable electricity system, usually in kWh. In home solar paperwork it most often appears around older Feed-in Tariff accounts, where generation payments are based on generation meter readings and deemed export may be calculated from generated electricity when there is no suitable export meter. Ofgem says a FIT generation meter is normally located close to the point of generation and must calculate the installation's generation separately from other energy sources unless pro-rating is available. A generation meter reading is not an export reading, a smart-meter import reading, an export MPAN, DNO approval, SEG registration or proof that all generated electricity was exported or used in the home.
