Global warming potential

Global warming potential is a relative measure of how much a gas contributes to global warming compared with carbon dioxide.

Global warming potential, often shortened to GWP, compares the warming effect of a gas with carbon dioxide. In a heat pump context it usually appears around refrigerants and F-gas paperwork, where the gas type and charge are used to calculate the carbon dioxide equivalent of refrigerant in the equipment. It is not a heat pump efficiency rating, running-cost estimate, safety label or proof that a particular installation meets every F-gas, product or grant requirement.
