Granny charger

A granny charger is the informal name for a portable EV charging lead used with a standard 3-pin socket rather than a fixed home chargepoint.

A granny charger is the informal name for a portable EV charging lead that lets an EV charge from a standard UK 3-pin socket through an in-cable control and protection unit. In technical material the same arrangement is usually described as Mode 2 charging or an EVSE supply cable. It is commonly slower than a fixed wallbox, often around 2.3 kW from a 3-pin plug, and is usually treated as an occasional or fallback charging method rather than the normal home charging arrangement.
