Grid charging

Grid charging means deliberately charging a home battery from imported grid electricity rather than from on-site generation such as solar PV. It usually appears in battery apps and commissioning controls where the system can charge during a scheduled period, often to use a cheaper off-peak tariff or to raise the battery state of charge before a period of higher demand. It is separate from forced charge, backup reserve and export control: grid charging describes where the energy comes from, while those settings describe why or how the battery is being controlled. The tariff, warranty, charge-power limit and export-metering rules remain relevant because some systems distinguish ordinary self-consumption from third-party grid trading and SEG suppliers may treat exports from grid-charged batteries differently.
